The head is forged from high quality steel, tempered and annealed to the right hardness. The quality of the Swedish steel and how long it holds an edge is awesome! I've only had to sharpen it once in three years! The 450 Splitting Maul is created by skilled craftsmen and can't be compared to other cheaper and inferior products sold at the big box stores.
It's refreshing to use a tool that was made by someone who cared about what they were doing, and was allowed by their employer to do their best work. Each Gransfors Splitting Maul is made by one experienced smith, and he stamps his initials in metal. That's commitment! This Gransfors maul is a pleasure to split firewood with and is well worth the extra money.
